NPC Artwork and a Huge Thank You Milestone!
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 12, 2022 at 05:44:37 AM

Hello friends and extraordinary elvish wedding guests!

*** NPC artwork ***

Just in: Brilliant new artwork from Alaina Milare, one of our ridiculously talented illustrators! This is a portrait of Galïanne Isillionthë-FitzGilbert, a half-elf noblewoman and the bride’s sister.

Galïanne became a widow three years ago when her husband Jonah FitzGilbert died. Although she would never admit it to anyone, she was happily married and only agreed to the match because she was persuaded by her family to marry.
Galïanne is deeply loyal to her sister and family, but rarely shares her thoughts or feelings. However, she hides a scandalous secret that could ruin her reputation forever. Want to know what the secret is? That’s for the players’ characters to find out during the wedding! :)

Once again, Alaina Milare has made sense of our hopelessly messy description and captured both Galïanne’s looks and expression perfectly! How does she do it? Telepathy? Magic? Both!? We don’t know – but we sure love the portrait!

*** Thank you! ***
Over the past weekend, the support for An Unexpected Wedding Invitation passed an astounding, breathtaking and simply stunning £100,000!
That’s an unbelievable milestone! Or maybe “lightyear-stone” is a better name!
It’s way, way, WAY beyond what we thought even possible, and we honestly don’t know what to say.

We’re completely overwhelmed and incredibly thankful. We were super-nervous when the campaign launched and we weren’t even entirely sure that it would reach its goal. (We thought this was going to be a small campaign!)
Since there are only two of us writing the book and putting everything together, it feels like a huge commitment to make this book amazing! We promise we’ll do our absolute and utmost best to make sure that the book is as good as it possibly can be!!!

Thank you for believing in this project and for helping us create this book!
A PHENOMENALLY HUGE THANK YOU FOR THIS INCREDIBLE SUPPORT!!!
YOU ARE ALL AMAZING!!! :)

*** Secret spells ***
Last week, Emmanuel, one of our backers, asked if we could share a large image of the pages with the secret spells so that it’s possible to read the descriptions! :) Click here or on the image below to see the pages in a larger format.

That’s all we had for today!
We hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, and we’ll see you in the next campaign update!

Cheers
Tove and Erik :)

Kamon is a 5e setting that is based on the Japanese Feudal Period! Full of flavour and original ideas as well as excellent artwork, this book looks mightily intriguing. Check it out!

In Kamon, classes, backgrounds, equipment and spells are designed to offer through new game mechanics a unique and immersive experience, able to combine the epic nature of 5th Edition with the classic atmosphere of feudal Japan. Fantasy elements based on Japanese mythology, legends, and traditions were then added to this new historical context.
Welcome, Rōnin!

Spells and Backers’ Choice Results!
about 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 09, 2022 at 06:06:19 AM

Hello friends and chivalrous wedding callers!

*** Spells ***
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an adventure themed around romance and mysteries must feature a selection of appropriate love spells. :D
So we packed our bags and paid a visit to the shop of Rigmor Winterapple, a halfling resident in Northwind Gate who collects all kinds of enchantments!

We sipped her excellent homemade lemonade while she rounded up a number of love spells for wooing, entertaining, and displaying true commitment to others.
The result will be included in the compendium Intrigues & Intentions. Here above is a sample of the spells from the book!

*** Backers’ Choice ***
This week we ran the campaign’s second Backers’ Choice poll and the results are in!
The winning option is…*drumroll*…Delightful Parlour Games!
Huge thanks to everyone who took part and voted! And a massive thank you also to everyone who posted ideas and feedback in the comments! We love receiving suggestions and thoughts, and it helps to make the book the best it can be. :)

The next question is, of course, what games to include?
Some of our initial ideas are The Ball of Wool (a truly classic Victorian parlour game), Blind Man’s Bluff (guessing someone else’s identity through touch while blindfolded like in Sleepy Hollow), Blowing a Feather in the Air (as seen in Jane Eyre), and word riddles (like in Emma). If you have more ideas for parlour games, we’d love to know – please let us know in a comment! :)

The clear runner-up option was an alternative ending to the adventure, in which everything turns into a zombie disaster. As this option was so popular, we might add it as a bonus content…

That’s all for today – we hope you’ll have a terrific weekend!
We’ll see you in the next update!

Cheers
Tove and Erik

Behind the Scenes at Midnight Tower!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 07, 2022 at 04:55:21 PM

Hello friends and festive fantasy travellers!

*** Behind the Scenes ***
Here is a glimpse of what Midnight Tower looks like behind the scenes: Tove and Erik in their respective natural nerdy habitats!

We both work from home and our house is located on the outskirts of Oxford, which by pure chance happens to be near the previous homes of both C.S Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien. The name ‘Midnight Tower’ was coined when we started publishing adventures and were brainstorming ideas for a name. However, since we realised that we spent most of the time working in our loft – and very often late at night, Midnight Tower seemed like a given! :)

We currently have two working corners and two very different desks. Tove’s workspace is still in the loft, and our cat Sally often accompanies Tove to supervise her work and offer sardonic meowing. As you can see, Tove’s desk is strangely uncluttered (it really is this tidy, save for the occasional collection of coffee cups!). How this is possible is unclear, but some argue that Tove employs an imp to keep things organised.

Meanwhile, Erik’s desk is…well, a jolly mess. So are the contents of his folders, drawers, and shelves (and quite possibly his head). He claims that the overabundance of stuff in his workspace is ‘inspirational,’ but this might just be his excuse for never putting things back in their place.

So this is where the adventures are made! As you can tell, it’s quite a contrast between the two desks, but we like to think that our different approaches (good versus evil? Light versus dark? Chaos versus order?!?) make us complement each other. Kind of like Good Omen’s Aziraphale and Crowley, if they were creating adventures! :)

*** Backers’ Choice ***
Last chance to make your voice heard and vote for the Backer’s Choice! This is an opportunity for you to let us know what you’d like to see in the compendium Intrigues & Intentions, and we really want to know. :)
So if you haven’t already voted for one of the options in the poll, head over there and choose your favourite now!

Also, We’d like to thank backer Charles Horikami for letting us know that one could actually vote multiple times in the poll! (Ops.)
This has been fixed now. But surely, a true gentleman or gentlewoman would never have exploited this little blunder? (I mean… unless you desperately want parlour games as a stretch goal, of course.)

This poll features the following options:
➛ Delightful parlour games (exciting competitions and challenges)
➛ Wonderful wedding gifts (perfect for characters who wish to make an impression)
➛ More intriguing NPCs (additional guests who can befriend or bewitch the characters)
➛ Alternative ending: Zombies! (for DMs who look to end the adventure in a different way)

And if you have an idea that isn’t featured in the poll, please let us know in a comment! :)

That’s all for now! See you soon in the next update!

Cheers
Tove and Erik

New Artwork and Backers’ Choice!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 07, 2022 at 02:26:08 PM

Hello friends and venerable wedding-visitors from near and afar!

*** New artwork ***
We’d like to share some artwork that Tove has been working on! This spellbook is owned by Rigmor Winterapple, a halfling who lives in Northwind Gate far to the north in Eastern Farraway. She is an avid collector of spells and magic items that can sway people or win their hearts. Many of her spells are also for sale, either as scrolls or for copying into private spellbooks.

Rigmor is welcoming and bubbly, and provides all customers in her shop with a mug of steaming homemade lemonade. However, she also has a keen eye for true intentions and hidden agendas, and may refuse a purchase without excuse or explanation.
The artwork will be featured along with a selection of new spells in the compendium Intrigues & Intentions! :)

*** Backers’ Choice ***
One of the stretch goals that was unlocked with blistering speed was a new Backers’ Choice – and today’s the day!!! The poll is open, so head there right now and choose your favourite option for what you’d like to see in the compendium!

This time, you can choose between the following options in the poll:
➛ Delightful parlour games (exciting competitions and challenges)
➛ Wonderful wedding gifts (perfect for characters who wish to make an impression)
➛ More intriguing NPCs (additional guests who can befriend or bewitch the characters)
➛ Alternative ending: Zombies! (for DMs who look to conclude the adventure in a very different way)

As always, if you have a suggestion that isn’t found among the options, we’d love to know! So please post your ideas in a comment and share them with us. This poll includes some options suggested by backers, thank you so much for the ideas!! :)

That’s it for today! Hope you’re having a good week so far – we’ll see you in the next update!

Cheers
Tove and Erik

New NPC Sketches!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 07, 2022 at 05:57:01 AM

Hello friends and commendable guests at the elven wedding ceremony!

*** New NPC sketches ***
Our wonderful artist, Alaina Milare has sent us a new set of sketches, this time for another group of NPCs! We’re pleased to present the first sketches of the wedding bard Morgan Lavender, the sister of the bride Galianne Isilionthë-Fitzgilbert, the best friend of the bride Roslina Brynborn, and Thaligon Isillionthë, a relative of the bride. (Tove is already halfway in love with the bard.)

These characters will arrive fully illustrated with detailed biographies, and ready to snare the players’ characters in all kinds of plans and intrigues! And there’ll be more artwork coming from Alaina! Once she has completed these NPCs, we’ve commissioned more art from her thanks to the funding that we’ve received from this project! Your support for this campaign means that there will be more fantasy art in the book, which is going to make it even more gorgeous!

*** The giveaway ***
Huge thanks to everyone who joined in our giveaway on social media! We’d like to congratulate Samantha Tempest who was the lucky one, and also Matthew Vandergrift-Jones and Elf Waifu Princess who were the runner-ups! Keep an eye out for more giveaways and contests next week on social media.

That’s all we had for today! Thanks for reading!
